Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells that affects over 60,000 people in the United States. The National Cancer Institute estimates that in 2007 there were 19,900 new cases of myeloma in the United States and 10,790 deaths.

The Galen Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by multiple myeloma survivor David Emerson to empower individuals who battle myeloma and other chronic diseases to mangage their health and improve their lives. Beating-myeloma.org, an interactive website that provides information, advice, and networking opporunities to those facing myeloma, is the flagship program of the Galen Foundation.
