| My personal message: |
Hi, my name is Evelyn, I am 23 years old, and I am an Education Major at the Monsignor Oscar Romero University in Chalatenango, El Salvador.
I live in the village of Quitasol. My family is very numerous; I am one of 11 children, of whom 3 are married, and 10 of us live at home (including my parents). Seven of my younger siblings are also in school. For this reason my school expenses are so difficult to cover. When I started college it was with the help of one of my younger brothers who was living in the United States at the time, but he was deported (back to El Salvador) in 2003. Since he has been back it has become extremely difficult to cover my tuition.
My mother is a small-scale merchant and my father no longer works since he is elderly. One of my brothers who is 17 works in agriculture and earns $4 a day. Even though my other 6 siblings attend public school there are some costs that need to be taken care of, although it does not compare with university (fees and tuition). Where we live there are only two sources of employment, agriculture and fishing, which are seasonal jobs. In El Salvador it is difficult to have a job while attending school, especially since studying requires so much time. I appreciate your interest in me and hope to count on your support for the continuation of my education. I hope God blesses you for your help and I am sure that He will repay you for your work. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Evelyn.
