I’ve been training for months, and on July 11 & 12 I’ll be ready to ride my bike 204 miles in the Cascade Bicycle Club’s annual “Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.” But I’m not doing this ride just for fun, but instead as a fundraiser to provide Bikes for Africa.
Why Bikes for Africa?
Bikes for Africa is a campaign to get 30 million bikes into Africa in the next 10 years. World Vision has partnered with experts in the cycling industry to create a rugged bike that will last up to 5 years in the African bush.
Imagine how life changes for an individual living in Africa where walking to the market takes up to half of the day and you are only able to bring a few products with you each time you go. World Vision and their partners, World Bicycle Relief and SRAM, are looking to revolutionize transportation in Africa by providing long-lasting, durable bikes that can carry up to 220 pounds, boost mobility and financial opportunities by 400% and ensure sustainable access to education and healthcare.
How can you be involved?
Make a donation today to support me on my ride…
Every $100 donated provides a bike loan to a villager. Income generated from the bike will enable the loan to be repaid in 6 months, when it can be loaned out again to provide another bike to someone else. This revolving loan means…
$100 = 10 bikes over 5 years!
My personal goal is to raise $1,200 for my ride, enough funds to provide 120 bikes for African villagers during the next 5 years!
Today World Vision has over 3,000 bikes on the ground in Zambia and Tanzania. In addition to providing bikes they also provide jobs through World Bicycle Relief’s mechanic training program. These mechanics are able to service the bikes from beginning to end.
A donation of ANY amount will be a big encouragement and will help me to meet my goal! Thank you so much for your support!
