Welcome to the 2009 Walk for the Animals & Walktoberfest!
Saturday, September 26, 2009 at FirstEnergy Stadium (Home of the Reading Phillies!), Reading, PA.
Last year's Walk was the biggest ever with 3,500 Walkers helping to raise $115,000! Help us break that record this year and reach our goal of 4,000 walkers and $125,000 raised! This year's Walk returns to our exciting new location at FirstEnergy Stadium, with easy parking and access, a cool Walk route, more food selections and stations, and even more fun, contests, entertainment, and education! Registration & online fundraising is quick & easy!
Your support of the Walk is vital to our continued success. Thanks to you and people like you we were able to help thousands more animals last year by opening our second adoption location, the Holly Miller Center in Douglassville. We opened two veterinary hospitals to help animals in our shelters, pets of people facing financial hardship, and providing top notch veterinary services to the general public. We became the only shelter in the area and only one of a small handfull in the region to serilize every animal prior to adoption. We opened the amazing LaVigna Dog Adoption Center which is redefining how dogs are housed in shelters in our region. Most importantly of all, for the first time in our 100+ year history, we were able to adopt, rescue or owner claim every single healthy animal entering our two shelters and a huge percentage of the sick and injured thanks to our new veterinary services, progressive adoption programs and your support!
Help us make that every single animal, PERIOD! Walk with us!

Thanks to 3,500 people (plus their dogs!) who joined us last year, the Walk for the Animals is one of the biggest and fastest growing events of its kind in the region-- nearly ten times bigger than it was a few years ago! And the funds the Walk & Walktoberfest have helped raise have allowed the Humane Society to make dramatic improvements to the kinds and number of services available to help animals and their people. We hope you will join us this year to help raise desperately needed funds to help the thousands of animals rescued each year by the HSBC.
The Walk for the Animals will return to our great new location this year: FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Reading Phillies! Enjoy the Walk, check out the dozens of cool exhibitors and vendors, and stick around for the Walktoberfest. Grab some great food, great brew, sit down in the shade of a pavilion, and listen to great music all day, featuring Washington DC's ska & soul legends, The Pietasters, and Philly's own rockabilly kings, Full Blown Cherry.
The Walk will feature cool canine contests (Cutest Puppy, Best Tailwagger, Owner/Dog Look Alike, just to name a few), dozens of local non-profits and animal rescue groups, and a chance to mingle with thousands of the best dogs and dog lovers in Berks County and beyond!
Please remember: Although the Walk is meant to be fun, it's also an important fundraiser for the HSBC. 100% of our funding comes from donations, events like the Walk, and service fees. We don't get tax dollars and we don't have big government contracts. We are not part of any national organization. We can't do our work without you! Please raise sponsorship donations! Form a Pack! Pack rules are simple and you get great stuff: custom t's and dog bandanas, a pack flag, and a reserved space at the Walktoberfest!
