Bethany Lutheran - GIVING CHILDREN HOPE
During our 100th Anniversary year, Bethany Lutheran Church of Cromwell CT is raising money for the Giving Children Hope initiative organized by Church World Service (CWS).
Today, 13 million children are orphaned in Africa by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The Giving Children Hope initiative brings orphaned, child-headed households together to:
§ Establish and empower working groups to restore the family and social structures, combine their assets, and develop their skills to manage the stability of their families; and
§ Strengthen the institutions’ capacity to provide these working groups counseling, training on budgets & HIV prevention, micro-loans to generate income, school fees, and land lots for a home.
“Sticks in a bundle are unbreakable.” African proverb
Read orphan stories from Africa & more information on this program by visiting the following CWS websites: http://www.churchworldservice.org/africainitiative/givinghope.html http://www.churchworldservice.org/africainitiative/hivsupport.html http://www.elct.org/aidsprog.html
Every cent we raise will go to help the orphaned families of Tanzania and will be administered by HUYAWA, Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania www.elct.org. HUYAWA supports children orphaned by parents that lost their lives to AIDS, regardless of creed or cultural background.
YOUR GIFT of HOPE for these orphaned families provides:
$ 35 - Training in animal husbandry, provision of goat or pig per orphan family
$ 250 - One year costs per orphan family to empower
$ 625 - Literacy class for 25 students
$1000 Hygiene, latrine, and malaria prevention training for 100 households, or Agricultural training, tools, & seed for 20 heads-of-household
$1750 - Child rights and advoacy education for 50 classes
$2500 - Primary health care for 72 child-headed orphan households
$5000 - SMART grant to promote healthy lifestyle behavior or Bookkeeping training for 1,000 orphan households
