I first found out about Shoe4Africa by reading one of my favorite magazines – Runners World. Somehow my biggest struggles seemed trivial after reading the Editor’s letter - I wanted to learn more.
Shoe4Africa is a volunteer-only 501(c)3 organization that provides proper medical care, HIV/AIDS awareness and testing, and running shoes for Africans.
Running shoes, you ask…? Yes, it may seem a bit out of place, but as I found out via the Shoe4Africa website putting shoes on a person greatly reduces the chance of intestinal worms. Close to 92% of Kenyan children tested had Hookworm, which enters the body through exposed feet.
As I researched this nonprofit more, I realized what a huge difference Shoe4Africa is making. By sponsoring running events and handing out running shoes, they are raising HIV/AIDS awareness - a subject that is traditionally taboo. Their next ambitious project is to build a hospital in war-torn Kenya.
I was moved – I needed to help.
World Run Day seemed like a great reason to raise money for Shoe4Africa. This event is intended to promote the sport of running and charitable giving - this year it's November 9th.
Will you help me raise awareness of and/or donate to this cause?
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
