Steven was diagnosed with von Hippel Lindau disease in the spring of 2005. He was 16 years old. The diagnosis was made because of the presence of multiple tumors in his brain. Von Hippel Lindau disease (VHL) is a genetic cancer syndrome. The disease causes tumors, both benign and malignent, to grow in the kidneys, the spinal cord, the brain, the retinas of the eys, the pancreas and the adrenal glands. This disease has no cure, and the development of new tumors never ends. The only treatment to date is surgery. Steven has had two brain surgeries since diagnosis. We are determined to support a cure through fundraising. “Not if, but when!”
