My personal message:
My son Kellen was one year old when he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Cystinosis. Even though he responded well to his medication, (that he takes every 6 hours), his kidneys started to fail before he reached his 8th birthday.

We knew a kidney transplant was inevitable, so we thoroughly researched our options to find the best care. With no doubt in our minds, the UW American Family Children's Hospital was our choice. Not only are the doctors well renown, but the care exceeds all others.

On April 26th, 2006, Kellen received his new kidney from his dad, Tim. The care and services we received while in the hospital made it so much easier to keep focused on Kellen, Tim, and the rest of our family. These necessary services exist because of generous donations from all of us. Most of the families I met during Kellen's hospital stay were from out of town, and they need these vital services to survive.

Today, Kellen is doing well. Doctor visits have become less frequent, he continues to grow, and he's enjoying what most 9 year old boys do! For that we are grateful.

Our family was also truly blessed in that Kellen left the hospital healthier than when he went in. Most families are not so lucky. It is for those families, and mine that I thank you for your goodwill and support in giving to the Champion for Children's campaign. Your generosity does make a difference!
