This September (Labor Day weekend) I'll be going to Disneyland to run a half marathon. Each participant receives a finisher's medal shaped like the DisneyCastle. I will be running this race in honor of a child who is going through long term treatment within our American Family Children's Hospital. I have read that kids really like to get these Disney medals! When I go to Disneyland, I'll also be trying to get as many character signatures and pictures (with the characters) as possible. Upon my return I'll bring the signature/ photo album and medal for the child to keep.
Last fall I did this type of gesture for my 82 year old grandmother who was going through cancer treatment. She wasn't about to give up, and as hard as my race was to finish, I did not give up (because she wasn't giving up): my grandmother was my inspiration to the finish line! I gave her my medal and it made her so happy and proud. I'd like to be able to share this experience with someone once again.
Well, I’m excited to say that I have just met the little child I’ll be running for! Her name is Caitlynn: she’s just wonderful, and I can’t wait to share my Disneyland experience with her!
To make this Disneyland event even more spectacular, I’ve decided to raise money in support of families with a loved one receiving long term treatment care from the Children’s hospital. Caitlynn and I hope that you can go the "extra mile" in supporting us by giving the American Family Children’s Hospital a little extra "boost"! Because I’ll need to run 13 miles to complete this event and earn my medal for Caitlynn, my donation suggestions relate to that “lucky number” 13!
Donation suggestions:
$6.50 = $0.50 per mile
$13.00 = $1.00 per mile
$26.00 = double my mileage!
