"Grateful for All of It"
Hello Everybody:
It will be 15 years ago this September since my uncle, Dr. John Richard Noonan, passed on, after a long and courageous battle with AIDS. This year, I have organized a team in his memory. Those who had the honor of knowing my uncle knew that he was an intelligent, compassionate, kind and spiritual man. A native Utican, John graduated from Notre Dame High School (Utica) at the top of his class, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and later completed his doctoral degree from SUNY Binghamton. It is in my uncle’s name and memory that I have organized this year's Team Dr. J. My goal is to raise $1,000 for AIDS Community Resources, an organization which is instrumental in education for the prevention of HIV/AIDS. This organization is a local resource, and 100 percent of the funds raised will stay in the area. All contributions are tax deductible, and you will receive a receipt upon donation. In addition, I am offering to add your company's name on t-shirts that will be made prior to the event. This opportunity is available on a first-come, first-serve basis because I am limiting the number of shirts available. Also, all donors of $25 and higher will receive a copy of my uncle's book, The Singing Bird Will Come: An Aids Journal. The book has been endorsed by such people as Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, president emeritus of Notre Dame; Robert Ellsberg, editor-in-chief of Orbis Books; Dr. Jane E. Dwyer, founder and director of Buddy Network and many other well-known persons in the AIDS field. Dr. Dwyer says on the book jacket: “This is a book about accepting the reality of death each day, yet living life to the fullest. The book puts into words the journey of all those living with AIDS. Through his journal, Dr. Noonan manages to open the inner chambers of his heart to provide a clearer understanding of what it is like to live with AIDS.”
Thank you so much for considering my request. I know the economy has affected all of us, so whatever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. $100 and up: opportunity to run/walk in event, company name on shirt, copy of The Singing Bird Will Come: An AIDS Journal, and thank-you letter from team. $25-$99: opportunity to run/ walk in event, copy of The Singing Bird Will Come: An AIDS Journal and thank-you letter from team $5-$24: Thank-you letter from team
