Hello everyone!
On May 29th, 2009, I will be leaving for Costa Rica to work as a volunteer English teacher for 2 months through WorldTeach. WorldTeach is a non-profit based out of Harvard University that places volunteer teachers in under-resourced schools in developing countries.
I will teach English at public secondary schools under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. Teaching placements are usually in small towns in rural areas throughout the country. These schools are part of the Liceo Rural program, which constructs schools in rural areas where few if any teachers are available. Students learn English mostly via videos during the school year, and I will provide a "real life" experience for the students. Most volunteers will work with 7th through 9th grade students.
I am hoping to fundraise 100% of my program fee of $3,990 which covers airfare (from Miami to San Jose, CR), housing, health insurance and in-country support. Adding to that is the $220 domestic flight from NY to Miami and a $250 fee for a more comprehensive international medical insurance plan, which is essential for my safety abroad. World Teach is a non-profit organization and therefore your donation is tax-free and 100% tax-deductible. No donation is small and every donation will go a long way towards helping me reach my goal!
I know times are tight and donations may be a low priority right now. However, this is a unique opportunity to make a donation that will go directly toward making a difference in a developing country by placing me there!
My sincerest thanks to all who are supporting me.
Love,
Brittany
