Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue (BLRR), founded in 1997, is a nonprofit all-volunteer organization that specializes in placing Labs and Lab mixes. We place an average of 100 dogs per year in their forever homes. BLRR serves areas of Pennsylvania and New Jersey depending on the number and availability of our volunteers. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization, we depend entirely on donations and fundraisers to operate. These funds help us to care for many dogs with many special and extensive medical needs.
Buddy’s Story
Buddy is a 6 year-old chocolate male Lab who was taken in to emergency foster care in mid-March by BLRR. Due to unfortunate living circumstances with a gravely ill owner who has since passed away, Buddy's skin allergy issues were untreated for several months and his overall health deteriorated from lack of proper care and medical attention. Brookline swiftly stepped into action and Buddy received extensive veterinary treatment and TLC. He was about 40 pounds underweight, his skin/yeast issues caused him to lose most of his fur, his ears were both infected, he had intestinal parasites, and was a little anemic among other health issues. Buddy's medical problems required him to be on numerous and expensive medications, ointments, drops, anti-fungal shampoo and a special food -- and over time he has shown very good progress!
Each year the rescue organizes our very own fundraising event called Paws Across PA & NJ Walkathon and Pet Fair. This is BLRR's largest fundraiser of the year and is in its 8th year. This year walk sites will include Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, NJ and Cedar Beach Park in Allentown, PA. Participants can participate by mail, online through Firstgiving or in person on event dates. The first 75 registered walkers will be awarded one of a kind Paws Across PA & NJ t-shirts with a unique design, courtesy of Harry Boardman. The participant collecting the highest pledge amounts either by mail, online, or in person will be awarded the overall grand prize in adult and youth categories. Each site will also award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for adult and youth pledge collectors in those categories. There will be plenty of food, fun and fur for all at both Paws Across PA and NJ Walkathon and Pet Fair.
