Lydia is a very lucky dog! She's a one-year cancer survivor.
Lydia was diagnosed with anal gland adenocarcinoma in July, 2008. After surgery to remove two tumors, she went through nine months of chemotherapy. As of June, 2009 her cancer has been in remission since the tumors were removed. And, most importantly, she is a happy, active dog, and loving life!
Unfortunately, canine cancer is extremely common. Some cancers, in fact, are seen at a higher rate in cats and dogs than they are in humans. The good news though, is that veterinary medicine has advanced over the years and there's more help (and hope!) than ever for pets fighting cancer. Sadly though, not all pet owners are able to pay for their pets' cancer treatment.
The Magic Bullet Fund was established by Lauri Kaplan, who knows what it's like to have a dog with cancer. After going through cancer with her dog Bullet, Laurie founded the Magic Bullet Fund, which helps pet owners pay for cancer treatment for their dogs. It is also part of the Perseus Foundation, which also helps support cancer research. You can read more about to the left of this page.
Laurie is also the author of the book Help Your Dog Fight Cancer, which I found just days after Lydia was diagnosed. It turned out to be the most beneficial book I found to help me understand canine cancer, which enabled me to help Lydia.

Thank you in advance for your generosity to The Perseus Foundation and the Magic Bullet Fund!
