Thirty-six years ago, two 11 year old girls from Boulder were walking home from a birthday party when they were abducted, raped and shot. One girl survived to tell the story and bring her friend's killer to justice. In response to this crime group of concerned citizens gathered together and formed HARM (Humans Against Rape and Molestation), the 4th Rape Crisis Center in America. The organization’s name was changed to Moving to End Sexual Assault to better reflect the scope of the organization’s work in Boulder County—providing support to sexual assault victims and addressing the societal conditions that contribute to sexual violence.
BRAVE BOLD & BEAUTIFUL Each year we honor sexual assault survivors at our annual Brave Bold & Beautiful. It is truly moving to hear their stories and follow them along their journeys to healing. The courage that these heroic women displayed in standing up to be heard gives all of us hope that we can challenge the system and end sexual violence against women.
This year we will honor Katie Hnida. Katie Hnida made history by becoming the first female kicker to score in Division 1 college football, and again when she came forward with explosive allegations that she was raped by a fellow player at the and sexually harassed by teammates. Katie is now playing for the Colorado Cobras – a semi-pro football team. She was brave when she spoke out; bold when she pursued a dream in a male dominated sport and beautiful throughout inspiring many not only with her story but in determination to follow her dream.
