Life Long Companions

Carolina Canines for Service provides people with limited mobility trained service dogs. Based upon the specific needs of the recipient, we match them with the optimal service dog type.

All In A Dog’s Work

Carolina Canines for Service (CCFS) is a non-profit health and human services organization that provides people with disabilities quality, trained service dogs. In short, we make lives better – one dog at a time. Founded in 1996 by Rick Hairston, CCFS operates solely on private donations, as well as community and corporate grants. Through these funds we are able to place service dogs at no cost to the recipients.

Take The Lead
Training a Service Dog requires considerable time and money. Many service dog programs charge recipients for their dogs from $2000 to $12,000. Carolina Canines’ dogs are valued at $40,000 each and are placed at no cost to the recipient!

Whether its supporting the service dog program, Carolina Canines for Veterans, Carolina Canines for Therapy or Paws for Reading, there are many ways to help us accomplish our mission.

Carolina Canines for Service is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to achieve grater independence through the services of quality trained service dogs.   A service dog is individually trained to perform tasks for the benefit of a person with a physical disability other than blindness. It takes almost three years to train a service dog, and once fully trained, each dog, now valued at over $40,000, is placed with a recipient at NO COST!

Carolina Canines for Service was founded on December 1, 1996 in Wilmington, NC. We have changed the lives of people with disabilities with the placement of 37 service dogs, have provided countless hours of visitations by our Carolina Canines for Therapy teams, all to create a better community where we live. We rely on volunteer service, individual donor contributions and grants from various charitable foundations.
Programs include: Service Dog training, Carolina Canines for Veterans, Carolina Canines for Therapy, Paws for Reading, Domestic Violence Animal Assistance and Community Education.
