Welcome to my fundraising page for the Dogs Deserve Better "Unchain Our World" event, held from June 27 - July 7 - this website is secure. This was the second year I chained myself to help bring awareness to the millions of dogs that spend their entire lives on the end of chains or in cages and pens; how they suffer daily, year after year, and how many die a slow and painful death. A lot of people don't realize the severity and scope of what is happening. And they don't realize the serious injuries and deaths of individuals (many of them children) that occur from dogs that become so aggressive because they are kept in constant confinement - no dog would ever choose living that way outside or indoors.
This year my husband Ed chained himself too. And for this year's event we went to the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC on July 3rd, and were joined by Dawn Delph and her boyfriend Jason Richardson. We were in Upper Senate Park which is a beautiful area with big shady trees, a view of the Capitol on one end and a large fountain on the other end.
We were right next to Constitution Avenue so there was a good amount of foot traffic, and we had the opportunity to speak to many people. Many were surprised by the degree of suffering that dogs experience when on a chain all the time and by the fact that so many injuries and deaths occur when chained dogs become aggressive towards people. Other people thanked us for taking a stand for continually chained and penned dogs.
Although it was a long hard day, I'm glad we went there and I hope all who chain themselves this year or help this cause in any way realize that they are making a difference for dogs and for people.
See how Tammy Grimes, Dawn Ashby and many others at Dogs Deserve Better are helping dogs all over the world at www.dogsdeservebetter.org.
Because of the harm chaining causes, some cities and states (California) have adopted laws limiting how long a dog can be tethered outside. Tammy Grimes is dedicated to helping stop these kinds of tragedies from occurring by educating people about the dangers with chaining. She and Crystal Sinclair lead an organization called Mothers Against Dog Chaining. Crystal’s daughter Makayla was killed by chained Great Danes in Spartanburg County, South Carolina in October of 2003. Please visit their website at http://www.mothersagainstdogchaining.org/
These are all priceless reasons to “UNCHAIN OUR WORLD”. Please help us reach our goals. And check out other chainees pages - some have really good TV coverage and news articles - also videos and pictures showing why people are so committed to this cause. Your efforts to bring awareness could help dogs that are suffering right now and help prevent another tragedy from happening to people!
THANK YOU to all who sponsor me!
