Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center is an Outward Bound urban center, located on Thompson Island in the Boston Harbor National Parks Area. We provide innovative experiential learning opportunities for more than 5,000 students every year on the island and in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Thompson Island Outward Bound programs meet the needs of Boston's youth - many of whom come from communities that are plagued by violence, gangs, drugs, and low expectations. Our programs are unique because they engage students in challenging and unfamiliar physical experiences to teach perseverance, initiative, self-direction, courage, responsibility, collaboration, curiosity, and critical thinking. Teaching these skills and cultivating these traits in young people and adults will ultimately lead to a transformed society where social and environmental responsibility and compassion are valued and embodied in our schools, companies, and communities.
