Dear Family and Friends:
As many of you may already know or may not know, our family has been on a difficult journey in the last five years with Crysta, our youngest daughter.
Crysta was born a healthy little girl. Something happened along the way and she began to have developmental delays. She had chronic ear infections and was sick all the time. She also had severe constipation and food allergies. She would scream as a way to communicate with us. We searched for answers by going to the best doctors locally and even going to the Mayo Clinic. Nobody could give us a reason or cause for the delays.
At 4 1/2 years old, Crysta was diagnosed with autism. This was very devastating to hear. At age 5, Mike and I realized that Crysta, at the rate she was progressing, would not be able to care for herself or perform the simplest of jobs. She could not say nor respond to her own name. She did not have the ability to sit still in one place.
After the diagnosis, I read Jenny McCarthy's book, "Louder Than Words." In her book, she writes about her son, Evan, who was diagnosed with autism. She spoke about an organization called Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), which helped her find the right doctors and effective treatments for her son. Evan has now recovered from autism. Her story inspired me to seek out the help of TACA.
Now, at almost 6 years old, we are hearing Crysta talk for the first time ever! She can now tell us when she is hungry and tired. She can say, "I love you." This has all happened thanks to a gluten/caesin free diet, supplements, ABA therapy, hyperbaric oxygen treatments and the most wonderful DAN doctors, including Dr. Mary Lou Hulseman, Dr. Kenneth Bock and Dr. Jerry Kartzinel. We are hopeful that maybe one day, she can live independently, graduate, get married, and have a family of her own.
TACA is the only national organization that focuses on family support, education and empowerment for families affected by autism. TACA aims to speed up the cycle time from diagnosis to effective treatments. 95% of the services that TACA provides are free to families.
This past February, TACA Indiana Chapter was launched in Indianapolis. I have become highly involved in TACA and I want other families to know that autistic children are getting better and even recovering!
I am asking for your help with a donation of any amount to Talk About Curing Autism (TACA). Every dollar helps to provide guidebooks, parent mentors, parent education and support to families here in Indiana. Donating through the website is simple and fast. It is completely secure and 100% tax deductible.
If you prefer to make a tax-deductible donation by check, please make it payable to TACA. You can send it to in c/o Cecilia Coble, 8943 Sawmill Court, Indianapolis, Indiana 46236.
Thank you for your donation and support. 1 in every 150 children is diagnosed with autism. You are helping families find hope for their most precious treasure, their children. These children, like Crysta, are also our country's future.
Please forward this to your family and friends, who you think might want to donate to TACA. My goal is to raise $10,000 for TACA by July 10, 2009.
With all our love, deepest appreciation and gratitude,
Cecilia, Mike, Alexa and Crysta Coble
