Chewey’s Quest for Cancer

Our Story
Hi, everyone. I’m Chewey Lynch, and I’ve been affected by cancer. You have, too? Then, read on.
Each year, I organize a friend- and family-filled fundraising golf tourney in Williamsburg, Virginia. In its 15-year history, The Horse Open has raised thousands of dollars for local nonprofit organizations, and I couldn’t be prouder of the fact that we all come together to do something good for something greater while enjoying a day together on the links.
As we’ve gotten older, the causes we’ve worked for have hit closer and closer to home. Two years ago, we introduced the idea to raise money for cancer research, after my mother’s sister’s battle with ovarian cancer sadly ended after a good, long fight. In her honor that year, we raised money to battle that painful, frustrating disease.
This year, the battle hit even closer to home. At the end of May, my sister-in-law, Tracy Lynch, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Her team of doctors has moved quickly in every attempt to eradicate the disease from her life and the lives of my brother Mike and their two girls, Kylie and Cameron. Tracy had a bilateral mastectomy on June 12 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy, which will be followed by radiation therapy. We are optimistic and know that she is remaining positive about the fight ahead. She’s even secretly hoping to play in the Horse next year!
But seeing what this is doing to our entire extended family and network of friends has stirred the desire in me, my wife, Amy, and our boys, Stone and Hayden to do something greater. As virtually all people touched by cancer can attest, the loss of control and lack of knowing what to do can be one of the greatest hurdles for loved ones to face. But there’s a solution. After all, what else can we really do but reach out and raise a ton of money to people like Tracy and my aunt Kathy fight that fight . . . to make it possible for people to win!

Let’s Do Something!
That’s why I’ve teamed up with The V Foundation for Cancer Research with a lofty, but possible, goal: to raise $25,000, one dollar at a time, by June 1, 2010. I’m calling it Chewey’s Quest for Cancer. Here’s how it works. For every member in your household, we are asking that you donate only $1.
The key to our success will be through word of mouth, so tell your friends. Forward that email that you received. Pass on the link to this website. Get the word out there to let others know that yes, we can do something about cancer. We can donate just $1 each to raise money for the research necessary to beat it once and for all.
I introduced the idea at the Horse Open and have already raised an impressive (and touching) $313. We’re off to a good start, but we need you to reach this amazing goal.
And, as I’ve promised in front of the entire Horse crowd, for all their hard work, our boys will receive a reward themselves: if we reach the goal, we’ll get a new puppy. If that’s not added incentive, I don’t know what is!

Thank You
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.  However, I have also have a PO Box that you can send the donation to and I will forward on the the V Foundation.  Therefore if you would like 100% of your money to go to the V Foundation feel free to mail your donation to PO BOX 6102 Norfolk, VA 23508 I will make sure it gets to them.
Thank you for supporting Chewey’s Quest for Cancer.

We can do something . . . a dollar at a time. Thank you so much.
