Christina A. Hinds
Suffered from scleroderma, a rare disease that causes thickening, hardening or tightening of the skin, blood vessels and internal organs. She was diagnosed with scleroderma systemic diffuse when she was 11 years old. She was very strong willed, couragous in her fight for scleroderma. She graduated from High School even though she had limitations, tighten skin, finger and toe ulcers throughout her fight. She volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for over 2 years and started college to become a preschool teacher as she could never have children. She was my daughter as well as best friend, in parents life when they lose a child it is like someone has rippped open there chest and ripped out there heart, this is how it feels for me losing my daughter christina.
She become very ill in September 2007 and was hospitalized at the U of M hospital in Ann Arbor and doctors told us that the scleroderma was invading her tenions and her legs that was the last time she walked, she used a cane and walker and soon after she needed a wheelchair as she couldn't walk. One of her wishes was to get a Yorkshire Terrier and we granted her wish and she got Bella in September 2007, as the months went on Scleroderma was spreading through out christina body very fast like running down a hill, it went into her lungs, and heart and by christmas 2007 her doctor told us to prepare she had 2 months-2 year to live. By January things were okay and St. Mary's held a fundraiser for her to grant her final wish a Disney Cruise her Dream. The fundraiser was great success as many caring and good hearted people cared about my daughter showed up as well as three television stations, radio station and it was in the newspaper. I have many thanks to a very special lady and she knows who she is. We had everything scheduled and left on Christina Final Dream on March 12, 2007 and by the next day March 13, 2007 she was hospitalized in Orlando, Florida and they called in Hospice into over see Christina and tried with everything in them to Angel Flight her back home but the doctor would not allow that as she would die in flight, so we had to wait it out with her, How do you let your child go? It was the worst nightmare i had to indure in being a parent. In the end she was always worried about us, wanting us to still go on the Cruise even she was dying, we never left her side, as she fight so hard to stay with us, God had other plans for her. She gave up her fight with scleroderma on March 18, 2007 at 3:30 a.m. in Orlando, Florida trying to get her final wish a Disney Cruise.
We will continue to fight with Scleroderma to find an cure for this diesease that took my daughter to early and so many others. Please support Scleroderma for all that suffer and all that have died because of this awful disease.
