Hi, my name is Christina Reyes, I am a brain tumor survivor. On April 21, 2006, I was diagnosed with a Craniopharyngioma, which is a brain tumor that develops near the pituitary gland. On July 5, 2006,three months after we received this devastating news, I had a nine hour operation to remove the tumor. The operation was a success, and the tumor was removed completely. My recovery has been a bit difficult yet successful. My journey has instilled in me a strong desire to help others who have been stricken with a brain tumor. On January 28, 2007, my dad, sister and I participatied in the ING Miami Half-Marathon as a fundraiser for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children. Just six months aftter my brain surgery I was able to run a thirteen mile half marathon in just two hours and twenty nine minutes! With the help of many generous family members, friends, individuals and corporations, we were able to raise over $77,000. The money we raised is already being distributed to families in need of financial support while caring for their children. On January 27, 2008, we are participating in the ING Miami Half-Marathon once again. This year our goal is $100,000.With YOUR HELP we can EXCEED this amount!!!Christina’s Kidz is an official charity of the ING Miami Marathon, and I am inviting everyone to join our group!!! By registering to run or walk the half-marathon you can help us raise money by finding sponsors (friends, family, co-workers, bosses, or owners of businesses that you might know). These sponsors may donate one lump sum or pledge a donation for every mile you run or walk. We suggest a minimum of $200 in sponsor pledges. I encourage you to find as many sponsors as possible so we can exceed “last year’s goal”.Christina’s Kidz has been assigned a special participation code, “CKIDZ08”, which must be typed in the REFERRAL CODE box on the registration page. You can register by copying and pasting the following link in your browser, http://secure.marathonguide.com/register/INGMiamiMarathon/ and follow the instructions.
