This year my donation site is dedicated to the memory of "Forrest Gump".
Forrest came into our lives in June of 2007 as a foster rabbit from HAWS. He had not been doing well in the shelter environment and was put into foster care to see if a home environment would help with his failure to thrive. Within a few hours of entering our home he was readily adopted by the dogs who took over grooming and snuggling with him. He thrived on all the attention. We discovered Forrest was 7 years old, deaf and arthritic and his biggest problem was that he had a large jaw abscess. Forrest had 2 surgeries to repair the damaged jaw and teeth and required endless hours of wound care, feeding and cleaning.
Once recovered, Forrest blossomed into quite the character! On the day he was to be returned to the shelter from foster care I realized I couldn't let this precious soul go and he was officially adopted into our family. He was quite the character hobbling down the hall with his funny arthrtic hop and we would encourage him by saying "Run Forrest, run"! He eventually was bonded to another HAWS rabbit Leo in November.
Sadly, Forrest crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on March 25th of this year. I am so glad to say his last months were in a loving home and he had a chance to become a real rabbit. Even though he was not with us for a long time he will never be forgotten.
This year I am also challenging all of our business locations. If we get each of our employees to donate $1-$2 dollars each I will easily meet my goal of $200. (We may even get Robb to match any money we raise!). Lets see which location can come up with the most funds per employee!
All funds raised go directly to the shelter to care for the more than 6,000 creatures that come through it's doors annually.
