My personal message:

BREAKING NEWS..... humans aren't perfect..  We make mistakes.  Some mistakes may be impossible to forgive.  Such as forgiving a parent  who has had their child taken away from them due to abuse or neglect..  There is no need to go into all the reasons why a parent might put their own child in harms way.....but what I do want to tell you is that the children of these circumstances can and do overcome the hardships that are placed upon them.

These are the children of Camp Horizon.

Here's some GOOD NEWS....to restore dignity and hope into these children, our week-long Summer Camp program provides each child with UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT AND LOVE, through one-to-one camper counselor pairings, daily self-esteem classes, traditional camp activities, and lots of hugs and encouragement.  It's a SAFE PLACE to try new things, make new friends and learn to trust.  They become part of a "new" family - the Camp Horizon family.

Most of you know that I've been involved with Camp Horizon since 1999 - as a camp counselor, photography & memory book teacher, funding administrator, board member and all around volunteer.

The reason I am part of the Camp Horizon family is the children - pure and simple.

As support staff at last year's Summer Camp,  I shared a cabin with four camper / counselor pairings.  Anna* (*not her real name), featured in the photo, was one of the girls in this cabin.  This was her first year at camp and what a delightful time she had!   She was kind and considerate - taking care of her counselor and friends at camp.  She wasn't afraid to try new things and give hugs and sing and dance to the "Peanut Butter and Jelly" song in the cafeteria.  She did have a hard time getting up in the morning....but once she was up, she was ready to go!  Anna is a charmer....with a great big smile.  I think she has a future in sales!  This year's Summer Camp is at the end of July and Anna and her counselor Melanie will be partnered once again to share a week of life changing experiences.

Neither Anna nor the other children who participate in any of the Camp Horizon programs have to pay to attend.  We rely on grants from Foundations and corporations, and from donations from individuals, like you, to pay for our programs.  For Summer Camp, the per camper cost comes out to approximately $1,000 to cover all the expenses associated with the one-on-one support we provide.

These challenging economic times has touched each of us in some way - including Camp Horizon

I have committed to raise $5,000 - and have started with my own donation of $1,000.  Please join me in sending children like Anna to Camp Horizon, by making a tax deductible donation TODAY.

Every donation makes a difference:

  • $25 would cover the cost of the supplies associated with the self esteem class for one camper for the entire week
  • $50 would cover the arts & crafts materials for one camper for the week.
  • $100 provides each camper, at Christmas time, an outfit for school, backpack filled with school supplies and a toy from their wish list..
  • $200 would cover expenses associated with the other activities held throughout the year - such as a trip to the Zoo or Aquarium.
  • $300 sponsors a teenager for our Leadership Development Program's weekend retreat (for Summer Camp graduates).
  • $1,000 - sends ONE child to Summer Camp (ask your friends to help you sponsor a camper)

Make a Donation in Honor of someone special - If you would like to make the donation in honor of someone for their graduation, birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, Camp Horizon can send a donation notification card (decorated by our campers) to the honoree.  Email me the details: style5627@charter.net

On behalf of the children of Camp Horizon - thank you for your support!

Sincerely, Christine Style

Please Note: There is a 7.5% fee associated with making a donation via this FirstGiving website.  The fee is taken out of your donation - not added to it.  If you prefer to avoid the fee, you can mail your donation - NOTE ON THE DONATION THAT I REFERRED YOU:
