Following a front-page Wall Street Journal article on Nov. 28, revealing the plight of the five residents of our Highland small-group home, readers have contributed $55,500--enough to hold off the scheduled closing of the home and keep it open while our nonprofit agency continues to raise the remaining $47,500 needed for the year.

Our 36-year-old nonprofit agency provides supportive housing, training, jobs, and socialization for more than 500 individuals on an ongoing basis. The State of Illinois owes us more than $1.3 million for services rendered as far back as May. We have depleted our half-million-dollar line of credit and are paying more than $2,000 of interest per month, just to keep our agency doors open.
