My personal message:
Note:  The date of the chain-off has been changed to July 5th and 6th, and we have finally secured a location!  Old Pearsall Rd Dog Park, San Antonio.

For those of you I haven't mentioned this to yet, I've recently begun volunteering with a group called Dogs Deserve Better. It's an anti-chaining and anti-penning dog welfare organization, which aims to get dogs off of chains, out of pens, and into the house via education, legislation, and rescue.

Our biggest event every year is known as the "National Chain-Off", where volunteers chain themselves to a dog house somewhere to help raise awareness and money. I've decided to do it this year, and I'm asking for donations from anyone willing.

Here's how it'll work:

On July 5th at 8:00am, I'll be chained to a dog house at the dog park on Old Pearsall Rd. For the next 12 hours, I'll be allowed only water, small amounts of food, and whatever shade and shelter I can get from my house. My wife as well as hopefully a few other volunteers will run a little table where they'll hand out DDB literature, and we'll all answer questions from people on how to handle certain situations.  I will repeat this again on the 6th, for a total of 24 hours.

My goal is to raise $1,000 for Dogs Deserve Better, so every penny counts. As happens with walk-a-thons, we're asking for per unit donations... in this case, per hour. I'll be out there for 24, so plan your donations accordingly. If you can spare even .10 an hour, that's $2.40 for us, and 100% of that will go to support dogs (no overhead or administrative costs... all supplies used will be via donation/borrowing). For those of you in San Antonio, feel free to stop by, take pictures, share dog stories, and donate!

Adam
