Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! After a few years of talk, I've finally decided to do my first triathlon July 13, 2008. It's an exciting endeavor for me, but one that I didn't want to tackle without also positively impacting others. For this reason, I am working to raise money for the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) in conjunction with my training.
I chose FAAN because of its significance to our family. Although we have been very blessed with great overall health, Evan was diagnosed in 2007 with life-threatening food allergies. It’s actually difficult to write such words, as those of you who know Evan are well aware that there is nothing physically fragile about him. He’s a robust little boy. Yet a mere bite of peanuts, tree nuts, eggs or fish could send him into anaphylactic shock. It’s even possible just touching these items could cause frightening consequences.
Unfortunately, Evan is just one of an ever-growing “club” of kids with food allergies. In fact, two of Evan's cousins as well as 12 million others have food allergies. This number is double what it was just five years ago. Most concerning about this statistic is that it remains unclear why the numbers are rising. Through the research supported by FAAN, I hope that this mystery is soon solved. In addition, I am hopeful that those who already have allergies might some day be able to eat without fear.
Please consider donating to FAAN to help make a difference. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!Deborah
