Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Many of you know that my daughter, Sera was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type I (NF1) when she was about 1 years old. NF is a genettic disorder that occurs in 1 in 3,000 to 1 in 4,000 people. NF causes tumors to grow on the nerves. NF effects individuals differently, some only have mild symptoms and others have severe.
Sera has a tumor on her optic nerves and optic chiasm. This tumor is near her pituitary gland and is causing increased levels of growth hormones, so she is considerably larger than most 4-year olds. Sera also has a plexiform neurofibroma that starts in her shoulder area and extends to her hand. This tumor is growing at a very fast rate. She also has some faint fibromas on her trunk.
She is participating in a medication study at U of Chicago. She is required to take two daily doses of yucky medicine. The medication compromises her immune system so she also takes an antibiotic.
I am so proud of Sera, she takes her medicine everyday with out any complaints. and Believe me it is yucky! She has gotten several blood draws and although she HATES them she still goes without hesitation.
Unfortunately there is no cure and no medication for the symptoms. Money is needed for continued research in hopes of finding medication to treat the symptoms and hopefully find a cure.
I have decided to run in the Madison Wisconsin 1/2 Marathon for awareness and to raise money for NF.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
