Maine Handicapped Skiing is a 501 ( c) 3 non-profit adaptive recreation organization founded in 1982. MHS’s mission is to promote year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active recreation. MHS provides lessons to hundreds of children and adults with physical disabilities, all free of charge, in alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, paddling, golf and cycling. Maine Handicapped Skiing is a volunteer-based organization with over 390 volunteers donating their time and expertise to help make dreams come true for hundreds of participants. MHS participants learn new skills, make great friends and develop self-confidence through their new-found abilities, all while having a great deal of fun.
Maine Handicapped Skiing is financed through the generous contributions to the annual Ski-A-Thon and through the incredible generosity of individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations and service organizations.
