Welcome!
Join the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) for our annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, September 24th, at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Buddy Walk® was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2011 worldwide. In 2010, more than $10.2 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as the national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
The DSACO is a not for profit organization. Our mission is “to raise awareness about Down syndrome in our community, and to provide a resource for support & education to families of children with Down syndrome.” A portion of the monies raised will be sent to NDSS to support research, education & advocacy initiatives at the national level. The majority of the monies will stay here in the central Oklahoma area to fund the various activities & programs supported by DSACO.
On Saturday, September 24th, we will "Rock the Buddy Walk" walking one lap around the block outside the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (located at Reno Avenue and Mickey Mantle Drive). The fun begins at 9:00 a.m. and goes until 1:00 p.m. with the walk beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Sugar Free Allstars will perform live at 11:00 a.m. There will be food, drinks, moon bounces, door prizes, games, music, & many more activities suitable for all ages. Parking is free at the Coca-cola event center just east of the ballpark (just tell the attendant you are with the Buddy Walk).
Family members, friends, & co-workers are forming teams to walk, raise money & celebrate people with Down syndrome. We invite you to join online fundraising & create a Team or to become a Sponsor of one of our existing teams. We've made it simple for you to raise funds quickly & easily for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma.
