Welcome!
Join the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma (DSACO) for our annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, September 25th, at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance & inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2010 worldwide. In 2009, more than $9.5 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs & services , as well as the national advocacy initiatives that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome. It is also one of the main fundraising events for the DSACO.
The DSACO is a not for profit organization. Our mission is “to raise awareness about Down syndrome in our community, and to provide a resource for support & education to families of children with Down syndrome.” A portion of the monies raised will be sent to NDSS to support research, education & advocacy initiatives at the national level. The majority of the monies will stay here in the central Oklahoma area to fund the various activities & programs supported by DSACO.
On Saturday, September 25th, we will walk one lap around the block outside the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark (located at Reno Avenue and Mickey Mantle Drive). The fun begins at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. with the walk beginning at 1:00 p.m. There will be food, drinks, moon bounces, door prizes, games, music, & many more activities. Parking is free at the Coca-cola event center just east of the ballpark (just tell the attendant you are with the Buddy Walk).
We invite you to join online fundraising & create a Family Team. Family members, friends, & co-workers are forming teams to walk, raise money & celebrate people with Down syndrome. We've made it simple for you to raise funds quickly & easily for the Down Syndrome Assoc. of Central Oklahoma.
