In 1970, seven parents had the courage to create an organization to provide help and encouragement for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. In 1976, the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis was formalized. This vision has brought us from a volunteer driven force to a leading nonprofit organization focused on providing a lifetime of support, education and advocacy for its members.
As we look back and appreciate our amazing growth, we also must continue to look forward and be prepared to meet the new challenges ahead. In the coming year, some of our goals include:
1. reaching out to the medical community to provide factual and current information to their patients
2. partnering with more school districts through our Down Syndrome Specialist Program
3. expanding our Helpline to network our resources
4. addressing issues impacting adults with Down syndrome
The DSAGSL is fast becoming the most comprehensive resource on Down syndrome in the greater St. Louis area. This has been a part of our vision statement and it is now becoming a reality. This tremendous growth came through the wonderful support of our many remarkable volunteers who have given their time, talent and generous financial support. We are
genuinely grateful for their dedication. We know what a difference we make in the lives of families of an individual with Down syndrome. With your continued support, we will be able to reach our goals and continue empowering families to realize their dreams for their child with Down syndrome.
Our membership is free and because we rely on donations to fund our wonderful programs and services, we are asking that you respond to this annual holiday appeal by making your tax-deductible donation at this time. We thank you in advance. Your financial support will help us to provide a “lifetime of support, education and advocacy”.
We wish you and your family many blessings during the holiday season.
Sincerely,
Linda Orso Susan Schuh
