The Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan is a resource and advocacy organization promoting public awareness and suporting lifelong opportunities for indivduals with Down syndrome and their families.
We currently provide the following programs:
- Financial support for families seeking additional education and therapeutic services.
- Conferences and workshops, bringing in professionals to speak on relevant topics.
- New & Expectant Parent Packet for distribution to families of newborns with Down syndrome. It is available at hospitals and other agencies throughout West Michigan.
- Outreach program with educators and medical professionals to provide up-to-date information on Down syndrome.
- Monthly newsletter for parents, educators and others, informing them of activities, resources and issues concerning Down syndrome.
- Member meetings, i.e. ‘Let’s Learn’ series for families of infants and children, Parent Coffees, Playgroups, DADS Can, THREADS, etc. to foster encouragement and support.
- Extensive resource lending library on relevant Down syndrome topics available to members, educators and professionals.
- Public awareness activities including book distributions, speaking engagements and media public service announcements.
