Thank you to all who braved the rain and supported the Walk for Epilepsy & Encephalitis today!  The rain teased us for a while and right when Teams Tipton and Bowman were ready to lead the way, it all came pouring down!    Some got wet and some stayed dry under the shelter, but we all had a good time and enjoyed the picnic.

The head count came to 75 people and the unofficial count of dollars so far is approximately 5,600!!!   A great feat for such a short fundraisng time and so few people!

Thank you to all of you for your hard work and effort.

This site will stay up for a while if you'd like to continue raising money, and I'll update the amount once I receive donations from a few more people who said they were still collecting.

Together we made a difference!  Thank you!

In 2005, upon returning home from the Cincinnati Zoo, 2 1/2 yr old Xander Tipton, tripped in the hallway, hitting his head on the tile floor.  He was knocked unconscious momentarily and appeared to have a seizure.   A trip to the E.R. confirmed that he was okay with no apparent permanent injury.

Four months later, Xander's parents recevied a call from the daycare worker to say that Xander was having another convulsive (tonic-clonic) seizure.  Leslie and Jason met Xander at the E.R. and after testing, the doctors confirmed that there were anomolies in his brain activity.

Xander's seizures were treated with anti-seizure medication. He was allergic to the first medication and the second made him hyper-active.  The third medicine worked to control the seizures.

Frightened about what was happening to their son, the Tipton's reached out to the Epilepsy Foundation for information and support.  They wanted to know how this could happen to a child that seemed so "normal".  Through the foundation they learned that he, just like everyone else with epilepsy is "normal", they just have seizures.  This is one of the important things the Tipton's want others to realize.  Epilepsy is a disorder their son had; it does not define him!

We thank the Tipton's for continuing to share their story and for giving others hope.
