Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!!
A few months ago I joined the Young Professionals Board for Horizons for Youth, http://www.horizons-for-youth.org/, and I will be running in the Rock N Roll Half Marathon on August 2nd to raise money for the organization.
Horizons is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students K-12 reach their full potential by providing scholarships, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities. The primary mission is to give children from low-resource areas the opportunity for better education by providing a scholarship for 90% of education expenses for private school to each participant. The student’s family is responsible for the remaining 10%.
Each student is assigned a mentor or “Big Sib” to serve as a positive role model. In addition to attending monthly group outings, mentors spend time with their Little Sib independently to expose them to new opportunities and experiences. These relationships have a powerful influence on the students and help to shape the men and women they will become.
Here is a look at the difference Horizons for Youth has made:
100% of our grads old enough to have completed high school have done so (versus the national average of only 67%)
80% of our high school grads have gone on to attend college (versus 30% of Chicago Public School Students)
Please help me reach my goal of raising $1000 for Horizons for Youth! I know these are tough times, but every little bit will help!!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Thanks!
Elizabeth
