2009 Autism Walk and Festival, Saturday May 30th ,11:00 a..m. YMCA, 5219 W. Pierson Rd. Flushing (approx. 1/2 mi. w. of I75, exit #122)
Dear Friends and Family, Our grandson, John, is one of many children in Genesee County diagnosed with autism. Jack and I have been actively involved in helping area families of children with autism. The main worry for these families is what will happen to their child after they are gone. Jack and I recently visited a remarkable farm-based residential community called Bittersweet Farms, located near Toledo, Ohio. Bittersweet is one of only a few programs around the country dedicated to adults with autism. They have been providing state of the art services to people with autism for over 20 years. We are working with the staff at Bittersweet through their Consultative Services Program in order to replicate the Bittersweet model locally. www.bittersweetfarms.org This would be a wonderful and much needed addition to our community!!
Last year our Walk was a great success with over 400 attendees. We raised alot of money and had a great time. This year promises to be even bigger and better with great food, live music, bounce houses, lego robotics, puppet shows, petting zoo, clowns, Pooh and Tigger, Renaissance Festival entertainers, games and activities, and lots lots more...We will have DARTH VADER leading the Walk and many other Star Wars characters compliments of the Great Lakes Garrison!
Our family will be walking again this year. We would love to have you join Team John and walk with us!! If you would like to donate, you may do it through this simple, fast, and totally secure website.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Jack and Cheryll
