Boston Partners in Education is important to me.
Before it was ever the place I went to work in every day, Boston Partners was the first charity in which I was truly involved. Eight years ago I saw a sign on the T - a sign asking for volunteers to help Boston Public School kids prepare for the MCAS. For some reason, that sign resonated with me, and I signed up. I've been hooked ever since.
Public education is important to me. It's the right of every citizen in this country to have an education; one that will teach them to read and write, one that will help them to be productive members of society. Not every citizen, however, is able to take full advantage of the education that is offered. Not without help.
What Boston Partners in Education does is to provide that help, whether it's academic or emotional. I've seen it working for eight years - seen kids bring up grades from F's to B's, seen other kids light up when their mentors walk into the room. It gets me up in the morning, excited to go to work. It's what's been getting me up early on Saturdays, excited to tutor. And it's what's making me get out there and run 26.2 miles, to raise the money to keep that good work going.
All of this is important to me. If it's important to you, too, I'd appreciate your support, financial, emotional, or otherwise.
