My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

Many thanks for your support

Through  international humanitarian agencies like Physicians for Peace health care providers from the United States join physicians and nurses in developing countries to improve health care .   Presently I have had the honor of working wih an exceptional surgical/ burn team at the National Hospital for Children in Costa Rica.

Although the devastatiing effects of traumatic burns  may  seem obvious. Healing the outer appearance of an injured child is only one part of caring for the complete person.  The child's  inner life  must be cared for as well.  As health care providers we tend to focus on  the physical repair of a burn injury, it is obvious and easily measured.  But,  providing ways  to assist  the child and family to cope with the injury  is central to healing as well.  The fight to live and ressume  life after a trauma requires much hope and motivation.  It is an ongoing  team effort  to provide  young  patients with support to continue in the rehabilitation journey  as they travel from the sheltered care of the hospital  back into community life.

As a  Registered Nurse and Licensed Clinical Social Worker Therapist  I am fortunate to be able to combine two important  disciplines to create a series of  therapeutic interventions applicable at the bedside for children  who have experienced  traumatic burn injuries.   This integration of  a milieu  approach to intervention is not  a new, concept  but  initiating this practice early into patient care  provides ways in which medical/ nursing staff  may address the healing of emotional  wounds as well.

I want to continue the work we have committed to in Central America.  Please consider a donation to defray the cost of travel for medical teams providing education and care.  Our exchange  between other health care providers not only improves lives it builds goodwill between our countries.   It promotes the cause of peace.  It is important work for others, for ourselves...for the world.

  Thank You....Genie Lindsey RN,BSN,MEd,MSW,LCSW
