The Big Sweep, a program of Volunteer Frederick, turns trash into cash for Frederick area nonprofits. Structured like a walk-a-thon, participants collect sponsorships on behalf of their organization, but instead of walking, they pick up trash from Frederick County roads, streams, and parks. Over the past five years, Big Sweep volunteers have cleaned up 160,000 pounds of trash and recyclables, almost 2500 tires and many truckloads of bulk items while raising almost $190,000 for their organizations. Thank you for helping to make this year’s Big Sweep the best yet!

Dear Friend,
Have you heard of THE BIG SWEEP? It is a one day County beautification project that “turns trash into cash” for Frederick nonprofits. THE BIG SWEEP asks participants to collect pledges from family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Participants then clean-up litter along Frederick County roads and in the Frederick City watershed.
Have you heard of SAFE AND SANE? It is an all night party for high school seniors after graduation. Frederick High School will be having their SAFE AND SANE celebration at Adventure Park where the students will enjoy all the activities the park has to offer as well as a DJ, lots of food and chances to win over 100 prizes as they celebrate with their classmates for one final time. Frederick High parents must raise over $30,000.00 to offer this wonderful party at no cost to the students – no student is excluded.
This is your chance to support a real WIN-WIN situation. Make a tax exempt donation for THE BIG SWEEP in support of SAFE AND SANE. We, in turn, will clean up a part of Frederick City and our children will have a safe graduation party.
The Frederick County Big Sweep will take place on Saturday April 25th. You can donate online with a credit card. Please visit my Firstgiving Web page: http://www.firstgiving.com/fhssafeandsane. All donations are secure and sent directly to Volunteer Frederick by Firstgiving, who will email you a printable record of your donation. Or if you prefer, you may simply mail your donation to me, Betsy Fisher, 309 Upper College Terrace, Frederick, MD 21701 by April 22nd. Make your check payable to Volunteer Frederick. Any Questions: call me at 301-663-8662.
Thank you for supporting me in this worthwhile endeavor. Please feel free to forward this letter to anyone who might like to donate.
Betsy
