Habitat for Humanity Mission Trip
March 1 - 6, 2010
To the Gulf Coast of Mississippi
Note: See comments about our considerations regarding Haiti...
In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina many relief organizations rushed to the scene to provide search and rescue, medical services, food distribution, tarps and tents. However, 4 years later Habitat engages many coastal MS families who still struggle with run down, temporary shelter and housing conditions that have become a stumbling block on the road to full recovery.
The following 10 people are volunteering their time and energy to aid those in need: Craig Bailey, Al Daigle, Rich Fieler, Ed Gotham, Reverend Jim Harrington, Fred Miller, Bob Nealon, RJ Nealon, Joe Pirroni and Tony Rice.
Would you like to play a part in this cause by supporting our team of individuals, who are using their hard-earned vacation time and/or taking unpaid time-off to help others in need?
We are hoping to receive sufficient donations to offset the cost of the trip, which includes air and ground transportation, as well as lodging at the Salvation Army’s local facility in the Biloxi, Mississippi area. The cost per volunteer is estimated to be about $550.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
If you'd like to learn more about Habitat for Humanity, or this specific need, please visit their website at: www.hfhmgc.org.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this on to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Haiti Considerations
As the events in Haiti unfolded we asked ourselves "should we divert our resources and efforts to support their recovery, instead of going to Mississippi?" We quickly acknowledged that:
1) We have already made a commitment to Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and they are counting on us.
2) We have already acquired non-refundable airline tickets for this trip.
3) There is a 3-year rebuild plan being developed for Haiti.
As such, any funding that we receive above and beyond what is required for this year's mission trip (to MS) will be used towards a trip to Haiti, or otherwise supporting their recovery efforts. And, our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by the devastating earthquake and aftershocks.
