The St. Leo Food Connection has been fighting hunger in Pierce County since 1982. While our program is located in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood, we serve all Pierce County residents. We operate:
- The St. Leo Food Bank -one of the largest food banks in Washington State - housed in the old St. Leo School Building in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood
- A weekly mobile food bank to Lakewood's Springbrook neighborhood serving 150 - 175 households every Saturday
- A backpack projec which provides two days worth of kid-friendly food every Friday throughout the school year tomore than 400 Tacoma public school students at-risk of hunger over the weekend.
- Summer Meals sites serving lunch to hundreds of children in Pierce County on weekdays throughout the summer. In 2011 we will also operate sites at two migrant farmer worker camps and a housing project for former migrant families in the Skagit Valley
- The Sutherland Orchard, which was planted in October 2009 to provide additional fresh fruit for our two food banks
- and we staff the Pierce County Gleaning Project which distributes surplus produce to food bank and hot meals sites across Pierce County
