I will run 26.2 miles at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 12 to help raise money for poor and needy children around the world through the charitable organization "World Vision."  Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated by these children.  Also, please pray for me that the Lord will strengthen my 47 year-old body for injury-free training and a successful run on October 12.

I came across some powerful Scriptures that motivated me to do this:

And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive' " (Acts 20:35b).

"Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble" (Ps 41:1).

"He pled the cause of the poor and needy; Then it was well. Is not that what it means to know Me?" declares the LORD" (Jer 22:16).

"He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be answered" (Prov 21:13).

"And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday. And the Lord will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail" (Isaiah 58:10-11).
