who we are
Over half a century since its founding, Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti is a perpetual swirl of activity: a fully integrated health system, devoted to prevention as well as cure. HAS Haiti is continually expanding to meet the needs of those whom it serves, and addressing significant health challenges.
Founded in 1999, Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti is a non-profit organization whose work in the United States and in Haiti is grounded in a strong commitment to education. The Friends initiates projects in collaboration with HAS that are ultimately geared towards improving environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability in Haiti.
The Friends focuses its efforts in Haiti on agroforestry and physical rehabilitation. Based in Pittsburgh, PA, the Friends' efforts in the United States are based on improving international awareness of Haiti, building awareness about the needs of Haitian people, and of their vibrant culture and artwork. The Friends hosts educational exhibitions of Haitian artwork in Pittsburgh and throughout the United States.
