Support bike advocacy and celebrate passage of Merrill’s Law

Honoring Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and state Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins
When: Tuesday, Sept. 28, 7 to 10 p.m. , Tickets $50
Where: Bronxville Women’s Club, 135 Midland Ave., Bronxville NY 10708      10-minute walk from Bronxville Metro North station.
What: Enjoy a glass of wine or Captain Lawrence ale and light fare to support the Bike Walk Alliance of Westchester & Putnam, an affiliate of the East Coast Greenway Alliance. The Alliance led the fight pass Merrill’s Law, which requires motorists in New York to pass cyclists at a safe distance.
Entertainment: Tara O'Grady and the Black Velvet Band, featuring singer Tara O’Grady and Darren Wallis on guitar, playing jazz and blues for your listening and dancing enjoyment. http://www.myspace.com/taraogradymusic
We will honor Assemblywoman Amy Paulin of Scarsdale and state Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers for their sponsorship of the bill in Albany.
The Bike Walk Alliance, supported by the Westchester Community Foundation, is working to promote bike-friendly communities in the lower Hudson Valley. It convened the Westchester Bike Summit in 2009 and 2010, bringing together public officials, planners and cyclists. It has collaborated with Westchester County on the South County Trailway; worked with Mamaroneck officials to develop a biking ordinance; installed bike parking to Tarrytown; successfully fought a bike-parking ban in Carmel; supported New Rochelle’s sustainability initiative; and worked with Yonkers officials to jumpstart the Bronx River Pathway project.

Donations are tax-deductible to East Coast Greenway Alliance, a 501 c 3 organization, which is spearheading construction of the 3000-mile on- and off-road pathway from Maine to Florida, including 15 miles in southern Westchester. The Bike Walk Alliance of Westchester & Putnam www.bwawp.org aims to provide the resources and knowledge to enable communiites to create safe biking and walking routes in communities and  to local destinations. We also aim to create a network of traffic free safe & accesible routing for bikers and walkers that connects communites in and around Westchester and Putnam Couties.
