A Journey of 5,000,000 Steps
On April 1, 2010, our friend, Dave Smith, began hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT) at Springer Mountain in Georgia. He plans to "thru-hike" the 2,175 miles from Georgia to Maine. Georgia is one of 14 states he'll cross on his journey to Mount Katadin.

A Tribute to a Special Brother
Dave is hiking the AT in memory of his brother, Michael. Michael was born mentally challenged but loved to hike - especially with Dave and his wife, Pam. Michael is shown (center-left photo) on Mount Willard, in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire.
Rooted in the Community
The goal of the Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike Challenge is to help Dave raise funds for Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country. ASPNC is located in the White Mountains Region of New Hampshire - a desired setting for outdoor adventures.
Reaching Out to All - All Disabilities, All Sports, All Seasons
ASPNC provides year-round opportunities in sports and recreation for children and adults with physical or developmental disabilities. Along with Dave and many other dedicated volunteers, we give our time, energy, and talents to this extraordinary nonprofit organization.
