US Lightweight Mens 8 - 2011 World Rowing Championships
We are proud to announce that we will be representing the United States at this year's World Rowing Championships, August 28 – September 4 , in Bled, Slovenia. After a long summer of training, trials, and selections, the following rowers have been selected:
Jimmy Sopko – Navy ‘05
Kenny McMahon – Wisconsin ‘08
Christian Klein – Princeton ‘11
Will Newell – Harvard ‘11
Nick LaCava – Columbia ‘09
Ed King – Navy ‘11
Matt Kochem - Cornell '08
Austin Meyer – Harvard ‘12
Jack Carlson – Georgetown ’09 and Oxford ‘13
As in every pre-Olympic year, the racing will be an especially high standard at this year’s World Championships. We know we’ll be facing stiff competition from Italy, Denmark, Germany, Australia and other nations. Our goal is nothing short of bringing home the gold, winning a world championship for the USA, and proving that every guy in this eight can earn a spot on the US Olympic team next year.
But an intermediate goal is simply to get to the starting line, and to do so we need to raise $5000 for each of the nine athletes making the trip.
Any amount of support is greatly appreciated. As a thank-you, we will be offering a World Championship t-shirt for anyone who donates $500 or more (when you give, please include your address and desired shirt size).
You can follow our progress on our blog: http://2011uslm8.blogspot.com/ . There will be regular updates about how the rowing is going, how we fill in the time gaps between practices and photos.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! Go USA!
