Hi folks, my name is Sebastian.
I am a beautiful boy and only 4 years old. I am having a tough time. I guess you could say I had a Blue Christmas! Not a happy howliday story from me. I was diagonosed with bladder stones and needed surgery. My family turned me over to the Arizona Humane Society because they couldn't afford to help me. Then the Arizona Humane Society couldn't help or adopt me out because of my problems. Well, it looked like the end was near. AZBHR was my last chance.
AZBHR saved me! I had my surgery - and I have to wear a silly this cone! 2011 sure hasn't been my lucky year - I am hoping 2012 will be much better. Just when I thought things were going swell - more problems! I just can't get a break. The good news is I am so much better - the bad news is my treatment has cost a bunch more than expected. I need help and AZBHR needs your help to help me. My wonderful Vet wrote a note for me to pass on to you. They think I am worth saving - don't you?
Here is what my Vet has to say about me: Sebastian required a complicated surgery (cystotomy, prescrotal urethrostomy, and castration) for urinary stones that were obstructing his urinary system. Some post-operative bleeding following this procedure is not uncommon; however, Sebastian had dramatic bruising and bleeding following the surgery. He has required two transfusions of red blood cells, one whole blood transfusion, and he's received a unit of cryoprecipitate (a blood component). We suspect that he has either Basset thrombocytopathia, a condition in which the platelets don't function properly to stop bleeding, or von Willebrand's disease (a bleeding disorder seen in many breeds). It is unusual for dogs with either condition to bleed spontaneously; however, bleeding after surgical procedures or following trauma may be excessive. If he has one of these problems, proactive measures could be taken prior to any future surgical procedures since the disorders themselves can't be cured. Dogs live normal lives despite these conditions. Even with all his problems, Sebastian has been an incredibly sweet patient and a super dog!

Well that's my story - sad but true. My wish for the New Year is to get well - find my furever home and live happily ever after! And remember I will be looking for my furever home soon. Could that be you?
Happy New Year to everybody! Thank you to AZBHR for saving me! And thank you to everyone for all you do and anything you can do to help me now.
Sincerely, (lots of big wet kisses too)
Sebastian
