Hello All!
I am raising funds for Friends of Homeless Animals in the name of the dogs who live in the long-term cottages in the Fred Sanders Memorial Village at FOHA. In addition to raising funds, one of our goals is to raise awareness for the FOHA dogs who have had the most difficult time finding loving, permanent homes.
My inspiration for raising funds during the Mutt Strut is Goldie. Goldie originally came to FOHA in 2006. She was about a year old. She had survived Hurricane Katrina and someone had tied her and another dog up to a post to keep them safe. There was about 15 feet of water all around and Goldie had a broken hip. I don't know how she came to FOHA, but once she did, she was adopted not long after she arrived. Unfortunately she was returned 2 years later. She had become very protective of the home and her people and her owners decided it was too much to deal with so they brought her back. We have no idea what terrible things Goldie may have had to endure in her past home life prior to Katrina that could have caused her to be so anxious and untrusting, or what she went through to survive Katrina, but I am so glad she did. When I started volunteering in 2009, she was one of the first dogs I was pulled to. To this day I spend every Saturday evening with her in her run...cuddling, playing "find it," and playing fetch. She and I have a special bond and I adore her. Unfortunately because of all Goldie has suffered, she doesn't trust very easily and is wary of strangers. But...if Goldie loves you, she really really loves you. I hope that Goldie will someday find her forever home, but chances are good that she will live out her life at FOHA.
Goldie won't be able to attend the Mutt Strut, but I will be there on her behalf and on behalf of FOHA and all the wonderful animals that we have rescued and will rescue in the future.
Goldie and I thank you for your support of FOHA and all of the homeless pets out there who are having a difficult time finding a loving, permanent home. Your donation is tax deductible and you will receive a receipt directly from FirstGiving.
If you know someone else who might be interested in supporting FOHA too, please forward this along.
