We’ve had a difficult week here at Furever Dachshund Rescue – two of our dogs are faced with emergent medical issues, and we need to raise funds in order to obtain the specialty medical care that these two sweet dachshunds need.
Sweet Pea is a 4 year old dachshund living with a foster family in Florida. She has had a series of serious seizures over the past few days. After seeing a neurologist today, she could either have an immune mediated meningitis that are causing her epileptic-type symptoms, or should could possibly have epilepsy accompanied with a disc issue in her lower back. She is currently on prednisone and doxycycline, and is home and mandated to crate rest for now, until further testing can be done.
Dan is a beautiful black and tan dachshund that was rescued minutes before he was to be put down at a high kill shelter in Alabama. Dan is loving, sweet and loves to hang out with his foster fur siblings. He really enjoys a couch where he can rest and give lots of love to his foster mom!!! Dan has been doing very well in his foster home until two days ago. His foster mom had to watch him endure a two minute seizure. Imagine watching this beautiful and loving boy struggle while his body shook and he had a hard time breathing - two minutes is a long time. After the initial seizure, he came out of it and seemed fine until the next morning - another seizure!!! His foster mom rushed him to the vet where he was observed. During his observation, he had another seizure. This must be so scary for this little boy - he survived the shelter only to have this medical condition that may take his life.
The great thing for both of these sweet dogs is that they are a part of Furever Dachshund Rescue (FDR) and we will not give up on them. With donations from people like you, we can continue to get them both treatment and start them on much needed medications and specialty treatments. Please consider donating today – no amount is too small and every dollar helps!
