MASSACHUSETTS POLICE UNITY TOUR TEAM
"WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED"
Trooper Ellen E. Engelhardt End of Watch June 1, 2011
Massachusetts State Police
Every year law enforcement officers throughout the country are killed in the line of duty. In 2011 we lost 177 Law Enforcement Officer in the line of duty. These fallen hero’s leave behind husbands, wives, children, family and friends. They have paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving the citizens of our communities.
During National Law Enforcement Officers Week in May of each year, over one thousand law enforcement officers ride their bicycles from North Hanover, NJ to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC. This bicycle ride is to raise awareness of officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum in Washington DC.
Sgt. Scott van Raalten and Officer Aaron O’Neil of the Hopkinton Police Department will have the honor of riding for their third year for this great cause. Sgt. Michael Sutton will be participating in his first unity tour. The Tour leaves New Jersey on May 9, 2012 and arrives in Washington DC on May 12, 2012 and will cover over 320 miles in 4 days.
