We have all known the love of Nadine. She had a heart full of scars and mistakes like all of us yet she is most known for her ability to love. During her lifetime of hardships -including four years of cancer and twelve years of Chronic Auto-Immune Hepatitis - she certainly showed me that, no matter what, I can always choose to act with grace. My mama never had an easy or clear path in her life but she managed to always have the biggest laugh in the room, enough conversation for hours, and a purse full of never-ending mysterious gifts and useful oddities. She said to stand up for myself and others and to love with my whole being. She taught me that my own personal power will inspire others to become empowered too and that fear and defeat are places a person has to sit in sometimes—not states of mind that one needs ever to live in. My mama did not give up on herself or others. She knew that positive change with oneself or in the world can begin in any place, at any time. A person simply has to decide what they want and try for it until they find where they are meant to be. I will live the rest of my life in honor of my mama, as any daughter should. In honor of her, we can all imbibe a little bit of her joy and strong will.
To be loved by Nadine is to be loved by a community. She always sought to share any fortune she came across--from thrift-store discoveries to her enormous care. She creates and inspires communities. Her love was not complicated--simply ever-present and always ready to wrap us in its gentle, sweet, safe familiarity. What a crazy, amazing, loving individual my mama is. Words will never be enough to describe her but oh what a blessing it is to have her love .
Many, many thanks for your support. Together we are a community inspired by Nadine, the best mama there is.
