Mackenzie was born at 28 weeks 6 days due to pre-eclampsia effecting my liver. She was born in May of 2002 at 6:24am weighing 1lb 10oz.. Mackenzie spent almost 3 months in 2 different hospitals. During her stay we had many medical scares, test, ultra sounds, 2 blood transfusion and of course many times that things were going wonderful.. At 15 months old Mackenzie had an MRI done that showed results of an old brain bleed. It showed that sometime between giving birth and being in the Nicu she had a stroke. Our best guess it happened during birth due to pressure on her head, From the stroke Mackenzie has Cerebral Palsy/ Right Side Hemiplegia/ ADHD/ Developmental Delays/ Learning Delays/ Sleep issue/ History of Seizures and other medical issues. From the day Mackenzie was born to today she has always had to take a number of medications due to one medical problem or another. Since January of 2003 Mackenzie has been in all kinds of therapy programs (OT, PT and ST). Today Mackenzie is like most kids her age only with a few extra twist and turns in her everyday life. She is 3rd grade and loves school. Mackenzie loves to write, read, play games on the computer, play with her friends and little brother and little sister. Everyday is a new challenge for her which only makes her a stronger person..
Not everyone knows or understands that a stroke can happen to infants/children and even unborn babies. Until I found this group almost a year ago I didn't know there was so many families out there that had children that were going through the same thing I was with Mackenzie. The love and support you feel from other families is great. There is so much Chasa is doing to help kids like Mackenzie and their families. Donations for Chase goes towards helping families purchase foot braces to help kids to walk,Scholarships, Awereness Events and so many more things.. For more infornation go to www.chasa.org to check out all the ways your donations help out families. Won't you please make a donation today and help support Chasa and everything they do for families with a child/children like Mackenzie?
Thanks for your support!
Love, Jayme, Tony, Mackenzie, Holden & Isabelle
